I remember sitting in the back row of the auditorium with my mates. They were all joking around and being rowdy, and then you came on stage. And everything else faded into the background. You see—that moment—the first time I saw you, you didn’t see me. But when you looked out at the audience, I could have sworn the smile you wore was meant just for me.

This was four years ago. You were only in the tenth grade while I was in twelth. You were so young, but I knew it then. That you were mine. You will always be mine, Ava.

For the next few years, I watched you. I wanted you. I will never stop wanting you. It took two years for fate to intervene and finally bring us together. Two years I waited for you to notice me back, to want me back. But it was worth it. Because that first kiss, that first touch, those moments will be forever burned on my soul.

I wish I could tell you about where I am, what I’m doing here. But I can’t. What I can tell you is that I’m sorry. I’m sorry I made you feel like you don’t matter, because you do. I’m sorry I made you feel like I left you. Because I haven’t. I haven’t left, Ava. I’m still with you. I’m still there with you. Every time I close my eyes, I see you.

It’s hard here, harder than I thought. Would I rather be snuggled up in bed with you? Fuck yes. But I made a commitment, and despite being away from you, I love this job.

Did you get the necklace? I have an image in my head. An image of you wearing it, of that little slipper sitting between your breasts.
